My husband Mark and I recently did a little weekend getaway to San Francisco, one of our favorite cities. We went a few years back so we already knew some of the good spots to hit up!
The first morning we went to Fisherman's Wharf to walk around. Gotta do it. There is this one spot where all the seals and sea lions hang out (PIER 39) so we stopped to see that. They were so cute, but I'm not gonna lie; I had to hold my breath because they smelled so bad!
Next up we jumped on the ferry and went to see Alcatraz. We walked around the prison with our headsets listening to the cellhouse audio tour. I love history so that was a really cool thing to do. (Make sure to get your tickets a little in advance because they sell out fast) http://www.alcatrazcruises.com
Ahhhh...The Buena Vista. One of my favorite spots. We always like to pop in here to get 1 or 2 or 3 Irish coffees. They are SO good! The same guy that made them for us on our trip in 2011 made them for us this trip! He said he has been working there making Irish coffees for 30 years!
We had beautiful weather the whole weekend so on Saturday we decided to walk around the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market. We spent several hours there sampling all kinds of yummy treats! It's a foodie paradise! One thing we had to try was this cheesy bread goodness called a "raclette". They heat a wheel of cheese under a broiler and slap it on some toasty bread. Umm, yes please.
One of the reasons we were in town was to support and attend Olympic Gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi's Always Dream Foundation event benefitting early childhood literacy. Kristi treated my husband and I as well as Bonnie Blair (also an Olympic Gold medalist) to the Sharks vs. Predators hockey game one night. It was a playoff game and we were right on the ice, so it was really exciting!
Our last night we attended Kristi's Red, White & Blue ball with other fellow athletes. The event was at the California Academy of Sciences, which is a very cool place to visit if you're in town. It has a huge aquarium, a rainforest and a lot of different exhibits to check out. It was a great night to end the trip with some great friends!
